A great result for our August PlatypusWatch

A record 50 volunteers joined Killarney Bushcare’s August PlatypusWatch, surveying 21 sites along the Condamine River, Spring Creek and Acacia Creek. We recorded 23 platypuses — matching last year’s August result and an encouraging sign for our local population.

One platypus was spotted swimming very close to Andrew Evans Crossing on Condamine River Road, highlighting the potential risk where vehicles cross the river.

We’re now proposing platypus crossing signs at key locations to encourage drivers to slow down and cross with care — a simple way to help protect our platypus while celebrating what makes the Upper Condamine so special.
